The most stylish MPs at #NDP2019

Singapore pride was extremely strong with our local politicians at this year’s National Day Parade (NDP), with many donning pieces by homegrown designers, customised just for Singapore’s bicentennial birthday bash. From hand-painted batik to kebayas to a menswear-inspired look, here are our favourite #OOTDs.

Cheng Li Hui

The Tampines GRC MP got in touch with her masculine side, sporting a menswear-inspired look at this year’s NDP. Her three-piece ensemble by local label Nuboaix is fresh, youthful, and definitely helped her to stand out from the crowd. She even rocked the belt bag trend with this eco-friendly purse made out of plastic bags from Singapore brand theKANG.

Baey Yam Keng

Trust Baey Yam Keng to up the style stakes every year. Designed by Ng Jia Min, a recent graduate of LASALLE College of the Arts, his shirt features two maps of Singapore: one from the 1800’s and one today, superimposed on each other.

“The darker regions were reclaimed from the sea over these years, to site our airport, new seaport, petrochemical industries etc, which played a big part in our economy today. At the same time, we managed to preserve many inland areas for nature and recreational spaces,” said Mr Baey.

Dr Lily Neo decided to go traditional but kept it stylish and very elegant in this cheongsam-style laced tunic which she designed herself. Colour us impressed!

Team Batik

It was all about batik for Grace Fu, Masagos Zulkifli, Heng Swee Keat, and Chong Kee Hiong. Mr Masagos and DPM Heng were dressed in designs by batik painter Ika Zahri Sarkasi, whose father Sarkasi Said was the artist behind Mr Chong’s unique orchid shirt. The Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP said he liked the batik designs so much that he got three pieces at one go.

Darryl David went for minimalist chic this year in a deep red shirt from CYC with an interesting “pocket square”. Wish it wasn't so crumpled, though.

Joan Pereira and Cheryl Chan almost twinned when they sported similar red kebaya tops paired with white bottoms at the NDP. Simple and easy, but still very chic.
