11 patriotic foods to get you in the mood for National Day

As much as we enjoy the National Day buzz – the NDP rehearsals, the flags perched our neighbours’ balconies, red and white neon lights adorning our heartland estates – nothing goes viral on social media like patriotic editions of popular food. From Playmade’s National Day bubble tea (complete with red Bandung-flavoured pearls) to Krispy Kreme’s chilli doughuts, here are some of the limited edition #celebratelocal eats we spotted this month.

As a bonus, the dish comes with two pieces of har cheong gai on the side.

Creamery Boutique Ice Creams

While the artisanal ice cream shop’s Ondeh Ondeh Cookie with Milo Dinosaur Ice Cream ($8.90) sounds fairly straightforward, the Chilli Crab Lava Cookie with Bread Toast Ice Cream ($10.90) makes Krispy Kreme’s chilli doughnut look downright conventional. Again, best for those with a patriotic spirit and adventurous taste buds.
