What he ate: Egg tart and bo lo bao (pineapple bun) at Kam Wah Café in Hong Kong, as well as wanton mee, one of his favourite dishes

Yummy factor:  When Desmond stumbled across a random, humble cha chaan teng, he was surprised by “probably the best wanton mee” he’s ever had. Aren’t these chanced-upon discoveries the best?

What she ate: Hot pot at Faigo Hot Pot in Shanghai

Yummy factor: Dunking tender meats in a tasty pot of bubbling broth sounds like a fine idea in chilly weather. No wonder Dawn’s sitting there with her chopsticks poised and mouth agape.

What he ate: A birthday cake with friends including Elvin Ng

Yummy factor: We’re won over by the big chunks of chocolate bars sitting atop this decadent cake. Happy 33rd, Romeo!

What she ate: Coconut ice cream, fresh coconut water, and nam kang sai (Thai shaved ice) at MBK Centre in Bangkok

Yummy factor: We’re overcome by decision anxiety just by looking all those glass bowls of nam kang sai toppings, including candied cassava, bread cubes, jelly, pineapple, corn, and other colourful morsels. Whatever the outcome, it’s bound to be refreshing on a hot day.

What they ate: Lunch at the Pulau Tekong Basic Military Training Centre’s cookhouse

Yummy factor: The food looks plentiful and on top of that, this was a proud father moment for Zheng Geping, who was happy to see his second generation start National Service as he had before.

What she ate: Laksa and other bites with Jeffrey Xu and their friends at a dinner party

Yummy factor: “Now, whenever I have the opportunity to eat home-cooked food, I feel very happy, because this ‘heart’ and taste cannot be bought by money,” Felicia wrote. That’s exactly why intimate dinner parties at friends’ homes are so nourishing, both for the belly and the spirit.

Ya Hui

What she ate: Egg tars from Sakurashima Bakery in Mongkok

Yummy factor: “We always search for the ‘most visited’ or ‘most popular’ restaurants to dine in. Yes, some are real good but some are too overrated,” Ya Hui wrote. “Give those never-given-a-good-write-up shops a chance.” Case in point: She ducked into this random bakery, where she bought egg tarts so exquisite they nearly “moved her to tears.”

What they ate: You tell us. It looks like some kind of toast with cream, but then there’s dipping sauce next to it.

Yummy factor: Well it might not win any culinary awards but don’t mother and son look cute on their “past lives’ sweethearts date”?

What she ate: Mookata supper with 118 colleagues, including Jeremy Chan, Hong Ling, Pan Lingling, Nick Teo, Cavin Soh, Dennis Chew and Richie Koh at 888 Mookata

Yummy factor: Proof that you don’t need to choose a posh upscale restaurant to please the stars. We’ll bet this lively bunch cleaned out the food in no time.

What she ate: A feast prepared by her mum

Yummy factor: Nothing says homey food like a family-style spread served in clay pots and stainless steel bowls. We can practically smell the appetite-whetting fragrance of those garlic chives stir-fried with tofu.

What they ate: A gigantic steamed grab with a “heart-shaped shell,” as their kids pointed out

Yummy factor: Ah, the irresistible sweetness in steamed crab. Also, is there a better feeling than cracking the legs, slipping the delicate meat right off the transparent strip of cartilage, and popping it in your mouth?

What they ate: These four friends ate hot pot followed by cake at Hai Di Lao Hot Pot to celebrate the three J’s April birthdays.

Yummy factor: After the intensity of mala hot pot, we’re sure their tongues welcomed the sweetness of jam-filled cake. Jaime, ever the “cake boss,” revealed the secret to mess-free cake cutting with pristine edges: “Clean your knife after the first slice.”

What she ate: While we're not sure if she ate them herself, Ah Jie surprised her team (and us!) with gorgeous macarons on her 30th anniversary in showbiz.

Yummy factor: How sweet is this gesture from Zoe? The way to people’s hearts is indeed through their stomachs. Pretty treats or not though, Zoe had already won our hearts long ago.

What they ate: Ultimate Chocolate and Lemon White Chocolate messy buns from BreadTalk

Yummy factor: The Muttons’ verdict: “So dirty but SO yummy. Especially the Ultimate Chocolate.” How they managed to keep their shirts spotlessly powder-free is a mystery.

What she ate: A strawberry whilst overlooking a stunning view

Yummy factor: Wrapped in a cosy bathrobe and snacking on a plump strawberry with all of Tokyo glistening outside – not a bad way to end the night.

What she ate: Cake with her family to celebrate her daughter’s eighth birthday

Yummy factor: We took one look at this rectangular beauty and loved it – not for its cartoons and personalised message – but because it’s a cinch to cut. All parents, save yourself the hassle and ditch the tiered cakes.

What they ate: Grilled scallops in Tokyo

Yummy factor: Apparently Rozz took over grilling duties because the restaurant obasan got rather drunk. Thankfully the scallops turned out delicious.
