What the stars ate this week

This week, Desmond Tan, who finally ditched his diet, got his fill of Taiwanese street eats, Cheryl Wee indulged in a 1kg steak, Fann Wong (finally) tucked into hubby Christopher Lee's braised pork, and Michelle Wong successfully made her own mooncakes. Meanwhile, Joel Choo went on a seafood frenzy, and Calvert Tay worked so hard in Chen Xiuhuan’s kitchen, she had to wipe perspiration off his brow.

Chen Xiuhuan

What she ate: Steak and aglio olio courtesy of Hong Huifang's son, Calvert Tay

Yummy factor: Calvert flexed his culinary muscles in Xiuhuan’s kitchen and the delighted mother-of-three couldn't praise him enough. The budding chef served up a legit juicy steak and aglio olio for Xiuhuan and her two girls, leaving the trio really impressed. Hot chef for hire, anyone?

What he ate: Taiwanese snacks

Yummy factor: Desmond ate up a storm in Taiwan after filming wrapped for his secret project and we're honestly pretty amazed at the amount of street snacks he managed to devour in a night! Think bubble tea, ice cream, spring onion pancakes, plump Taiwanese sausages and more. If you want to find out his favourite haunts, here are his recommendations.

What she ate: Mooncakes

Yummy factor: Third time’s the charm? Michelle's third attempt at making no-bake mooncakes has paid off - we love the intricate patterns on her pink and white custard creations! At least the mess in the kitchen was worth it...

Yummy factor: Priscelia made a trip to Glory Catering with husband Alan Tern to support the restaurant’s last couple of days in Katong, and was duly rewarded with nasi padang favourites like assam fish, beef rendang, chap chye and more. Thank goodness for Priscelia, it’s probably not the last time she can savour these delicious dishes... After all, Glory Catering is owned by her relatives.

What she ate: Steak, crab cake, French onion soup, and more at Opus Bar & Grill at Hilton Hotel

Yummy factor: Cheryl and her hubby indulged in an "abundant amount of really good food" on date night and the expectant mum couldn't stop raving about the tender and succulent 1kg bone-in Tomahawk that was doused and flamed in whisky. It was so huge and yummy that she da bao some home for her family to try. Celebs, they are just like us!

Oon Shu An

What she ate: Economical beehoon

Yummy factor: Shu An had economical beehoon for breakfast, and mused that her plate of beehoon, fried sunny side up and luncheon meat is actually a common breakfast item on set. Well, who’s to stop her from having the same thing on her day off, especially if it’s from YY Kafei Dian at Beach Road?

What they ate: Waffle Original Recipe Double Down

Yummy factor: The Muttons, along with Jean Danker, John Klass, and Sophie Gollifer, got together for a quick bite of KFC’s new Double Down, which now features a Belgium waffle sandwiched between two crispy chicken patties. And according to the Muttons, the maple mayo in the burger (or is it a wurger?) is “trippy”, and the new creation is best eaten “piping hot”.

And we can see why. Those tender morsels were juicy, flavourful and melt in your mouth.
