What the stars ate this week

With Christmas done and dusted (well, kind of) and 2019 just days away, the parties, celebrations and gatherings are in full swing! Michelle Chong and Lawrence Wong took the opportunity to meet up for tea, Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh had a quiet Christmas Eve dinner in Japan, while Romeo Tan, who was also holidaying in the Land of the Rising Sun, teased us with endless photos of yummy street food.

Meanwhile on the birthday front, Desmond Tan had an intimate party for his fur-kid Hoshi on his “woof day”, and Yvonne Lim and her family celebrated Christmas and son AJ’s 4th birthday amidst some chaos. Read on for more!

Desmond Tan’s fur-kid Hoshi

What he ate: Hoshi enjoyed his birthday cake with Udon hovering in the background

Yummy factor: Awww, how cute was Desmond to get Hoshi a cake to celebrate his 9th (or 63rd?) “woof day”? Hope Udon got a slice or at least some of that cream.

What she ate: Homecooked meal and tang yuan

Yummy factor: That’s quite a meaty spread Kym had to celebrate the Winter Solstice. We’re eyeing those braised duck wings in front of her.

Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh

What they ate: A quiet Christmas Eve dinner just the way they wanted - “without the frenzy and frills”

Yummy factor: We would only have Japanese food when we’re in Japan, but we guess that’s not always possible when you are on a road trip with two young kids, during winter no less. Well, at least the seafood pasta looks appetising.

What he ate: Takoyaki, which Romeo says is a must-have in Osaka

Yummy factor: Apart from takoyaki, Romeo also posted videos of freshly baked fluffy cheese cake (our favourite kind), grilled crab, aburi sushi, and more on Instagram. Not sure if he ate them or just posted them to tease us but he sure got us craving Japanese street food in the middle of the night.

What they drank: Cranberry juice for him, whisky for her

Yummy factor: Instead of tang yuan, Jacelyn and her little man celebrated the Winter Solstice over drinks at Bar Rouge, where they “talked about life on top of the world”. Judging from the smiles, this mummy-and-son date was a hit!

What they ate: Pizza, turkey, ham, cakes and more to celebrate Christmas and AJ’s 4th birthday

Yummy factor: Props to Yvonne for preparing this delicious-looking spread, and even bigger props for keeping her composure and holding that too-cute-for-words dino cake still despite the commotion behind her.

Jeanette Aw

What she ate: Soufflé pancakes

Yummy factor: The actress couldn’t resist these pancakes even though she was headed to dinner in just a bit. Oh, don’t worry Jeanette. These babies are so light and fluffy, it’s like eating air. Hope you gave them the obligatory jiggle before digging in.

What he ate: A chocolate dessert to ring in his 38th birthday

Yummy factor: Chocolate spheres are usually hollow so we’ll pass. We’d much rather have what that adorable panda’s having instead, thank you very much.

What they ate: Chocolate crayons which they used to doodle on edible paper

Yummy factor: How cool are these treats from pastry chef Janice Wong? We’re pretty sure the kids will get a kick out of them. Quick question for Kim: does the paper taste anything like the ones used for White Rabbit sweets?

What she ate: Pastries masquerading as lobsters

Yummy factor: Nil. Unlike eating mock meat, we don’t see how anyone would derive any satisfaction from this. Also, we’re quite disturbed by the cartoony orange hue.

What they ate: Canned reindeer from SGAG’s Anette Lee

Yummy factor: The 987 DJs don’t look too keen on the reindeer. We’re guessing neither is Rudolph.

What he ate: Longevity bun

Yummy factor: We rolled out eyes when we saw Tosh’s corny caption, which literally translates to “bao on my body”, but actually means “you can count on me”. Hur hur.

What they ate: Ice cream

Yummy factor: Smart move by Kewei and Alfred to grab a snack while Shen Momo was taking a nap ‘cos all parents of young children know it’s impossible once the little one wakes up.

What she drank: Red wine straight from the bottle

Yummy factor: We can’t help but wonder if this clip is in black-and-white because Jamie didn’t want anyone to know she was hitting the bottle in the day. Oh well, it’s Christmas. We’re not judging. #YOLO

What she ate: Christmas dinner

Yummy factor: The food must have been so good that they forgot to snap photos till they finished. Either that or they were too busy enjoying the killer view and making googly eyes at each other. Cheers and Merry Christmas, you lovebirds!

What she drank: Tea with Lawrence Wong on Christmas Day

Yummy factor: “This guy’s been so busy being a superstar in China (and getting awards everywhere) that we were only able to finally catch up impromptu on Christmas Day,” said Michelle. Sure, they were a little last minute, but we think impromptu meet-ups are the best – short, sweet and memorable.
