What the stars ate this week

The first week of 2019 saw our stars enjoying a wide range of delicious foods with little restaint. Way to set the foodie bar high for the rest of the year, guys -- starting off with Hong Ling and Nick Teo, who launched their first couple's business selling bird's nest. Another couple (Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu) shared their New Year's food tradition, while the Lee family indulged in their steamboat cravings. Michelle Chia wished everyone a Happy New Year with a durian in her mouth. And eager beaver Li Nanxing started eating yu sheng already, with Lunar New Year still being a month away.

What she ate: Steamboat at Crystal Jade

Yummy factor: We like how the parents posed for the photo while Zed was just all about the food. He even helped put in the ingredients himself.

Aloysius Pang

What he ate: McDonald's salted egg yolk loaded fries and peach pie

Yummy factor: This will tempt salted egg yolk lovers everywhere to give up their 2019 diet goals. Salted egg yolk sauce (blended with curry leaves) on piping hot fries sounds sinful, all right.

Zoe Tay

What she ate: Noodles made by makeup artist Peter Khor's mum

Yummy factor: These noodles look so flavourful and comforting. We get the impression that all of Zoe's friend's mums would want to feed her.

What they ate: Gyoza in Tokyo

Yummy factor: Per family tradition, the couple rang in 2019 with a plate of gyoza, which "symbolises renunion and wealth." Now this is a New Year's tradition worth adopting.

Hong Ling and Nick Teo

What they ate: Bird's nest soup from their newly launched bird's nest business

Yummy factor: Oh just casually drinking youth from their bowls... For those who can afford it, this nourishing delicacy and coveted beauty food may be enticing. Meanwhile we'll be here slathering on more face cream.

Chew Chor Meng

What he ate: Mookata

Yummy factor: He may have opened a porridge stall in 2018, but he kicked off 2019 with a Thai BBQ steamboat feast at his other stall, 888 Mookata. We're eyeing the generous helping of meat with approval.

Cynthia Koh

What she ate: Local Taiwanese food including minced pork rice (lu rou fan), pork chop, and braised egg and tofu from Formosa Chang in Taiwan

Yummy factor: Hands up if you devour more bowls of lu rou fan in Taiwn than you'd like to admit. Those fatty morsels are the best part. It may be a simple spread, but as Cynthia captioned, it sure sparks much happiness.

Hayley Woo and Jayley Woo

What they ate: Birthday cake and wine to celebrate turning 27

Yummy factor: Aww, their smiles say it all. Even though the cake is on the simple side, Hayley still looks like she hit the jackpot -- which she kind of did, sharing this special day with her other half.

Pang Ling Ling

What she ate: Her 22nd wedding anniversary dinner at Salt Grill & Sky Bar

Yummy factor: We spy oysters and steak (which spell "expensive") but what was Pan Ling Ling's favourite? The fries. Granted, they were jazzed-up truffle fries, but it goes to show that fries -- unsophisticated, greasy, simple ol' fries -- can complete even the fanciest of meals.

Li Nanxing

What he ate: Yu sheng at Sens Sushi & Grill

Yummy factor: Here's to a Huat New Year for Nanxing, who couldn't wait till Lunar New Year to toss his yu sheng more good luck and wealth. FYI, he is a fan of the sashimi here.

What she ate: Romeo Tan presented Carrie Wong with her birthday cake from The Celebrity Agency.

Yummy factor: Props to Romeo for holding the cake super still while Carrie took her time making a wish. Happy quarter-of-a-century old, Carrie!

Henry Golding

What they ate: Moules Frite (mussels and frites), and an afternoon tipple in Belgium

Yummy factor: Double fried and thick-cut Belgian frites are delicious on their own already, but when paired with mussels they make a delectable dish -- a must-eat in Belgium.

What she ate: Durian

Yummy factor: Even if you don't like durian, you might wish you did, after seeing the obvious pleasure Michelle took in sucking on its sweet creamy flesh.

Hong Huifang

What she ate: A huge wheel of brie

Yummy factor: That's the cheese of our dreams right there. And we think it's Huifang's too. She's so excited to dig in that she's cutting it on her lap.

Jacelyn Tay

Jacelyn Tay

What she ate: Sandwiches, fries and salad on the beach

Yummy factor: This spread is nice but not exactly a gamechanger. Still, everything tastes 5x better when eaten to the sound of the waves, the sun on your skin and the softness of sand under your feet.

Mark Lee

Mark Lee

What he ate: Hot dog, pizza and an Aquaman-themed beverage at DC Super Heroes Cafe

Yummy factor: Wait... are you supposed to drink it or swim in it, because that's one massive cup. Not sure how Mark had any room left for the food after guzzling it all.

Oon Shu An

Oon Shu An

What she ate: Local bites and soya milk

Yummy factor: Soya milk is one of the best drinks to wash down greasy food. Also, is it just us or is Shu An dressed like a baller aunty with her flashy printed top and showy gold jewelry? Honestly just missing the big permed hair.

Sora Ma

Sora Ma

What she ate: Ice cream in Malacca

Yummy factor: A sundae is nice (and eh, normal), but let's hope Sora took stock of all the other mouthwatering grub in Malacca. It's not touted as a food paradise for nothing.

Yvonne Lim

Yvonne Lim

What she ate: Fruit cake, her last bake of 2018

Yummy factor: We were in the midst of appreciating Yvonne's baking effort when a comment caught our eye: "Pretty. How did you draw your eyebrows?" and now we can't stop admiring Yvonne's exquisite brows. Got to love random comments.

Dawn Yeoh

What she ate: A giant cotton candy cloud at Karmakamet Diner in Bangkok

Yummy factor: This cotton candy hovers above a rather unproportionally small dessert cup. As pretty and Instagram-worthy as this is, we're not a fan of getting our faces and hair sticky for it.

Denise Camillia Tan

Denise Camillia Tan

What she ate: Thai food, including clear tom yum soup and pad see ew, at Long Chim on the last day of 2018

Yummy factor: Spicy Thai food, perhaps to "spice up" the new year? Also, check out the generous portion of soup. Fill it up anymore and this bowl would be overflowing (perhaps for the new year to "overflow" with goodness?...Okay, that's reaching).

Elvin Ng

Elvin Ng

What he ate: A belated birthday cake from his Shunji Matsuo family

Yummy factor: Not every day that you get served cake with a haircut -- unless you're Elvin Ng. His birthday was all the way back on 23 December, folks. And his hair salon still prepped this for him. Pampered...
