All the photos that made us hungry this week

As the Chinese New Year drew to a close, the stars indulged in all things sweet -- Hong Ling and Nick Teo went on a date night that ticked all the right boxes; Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh enjoyed a large pot of tang yuan to celebrate the Spring Lantern Festival; Xu Bin celebrated his birthday as a dad, Jeanette Aw got her fill of dessert and coffee; Carrie Wong, Lawrence Wong, Jeffrey Xu, and Xiang Yun couldn’t wait to get started on cake! Plus, let’s not forget how Thomas Ong loaded up on carbohydrates in Muar.

Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu

What they ate: A generous pot of tang yuan

Yummy factor: Could the glutinous rice ball dumplings they’ve prepared together be sweeter than their loving relationship? Both Joanne and Yuwu have been spending time in Guangzhou with family, and will soon return to their respective work assignments. Nonetheless, this photo of them enjoying their tang yuan is definitely one for the album!

Kimberly Wang

What she ate: Chicken cutlet from Lawson's convenience store

Yummy factor: From what we gather, Kim had an “emotional reunion” with this particular chicken cutlet from Lawson’s in Tokyo, Japan. We don’t blame her though - the simple snack looks like it’s been fried to a perfect golden-brown crisp, something we don’t always see in our local convenience stores.

Xu Bin

What he ate: Birthday cake and tang yuan

Yummy factor: Happy birthday, Xu Bin! Not only did he get to celebrate his first birthday as a dad, his hatch day, which falls on Feb 19, also happened to be the last day of the Lunar New Year, so he got the best of both worlds with two festive must-haves -- a birthday cake and a bowl of auspicious tang yuan.

Hong Ling and Nick Teo

What they ate: Comfort food

Yummy factor: Talk about a date that ticks all the right boxes -- Hong Ling took a “well-deserved” break with beau Nick Teo at EagleWings Loft, where they indulged in yummy dishes like fried chicken wings, fish and chips (we spy curly fries!) and lots of wine and beer to go around, of course.

Jeanette

Jeanette

What she ate: Coffee and dessert

Yummy factor: Jeanette opined in her caption that “coffee and dessert is always a good idea”, and boy it sure is when you have a freshly-made passionfruit tart and aromatic cuppa in front of you. Could Jeanette be starting a new venture and putting her baking skills to good use?

Thomas Ong

What he ate: A huge mountain of rice, with a side of prawns

Yummy factor: We thought those prawns were huge, but then they paled in comparison to the mountain of rice on Thomas’s plate. While it must taste fabulous with the sambal chilli sauce and crispy peanuts and ikan bilis, we hope he’s not having it alone!

What he ate: Fried carrot cake from 618 Sim Carrot Cake

Yummy factor: Check out the mountain of chye poh! The crispy carrot cake, which comes with prawns and celery, is da bomb. But be prepared to queue - the wait can stretch up to two hours during peak hours.

What they ate: Cake during lensing ceremony

Yummy factor: The main cast is all smiles at the lensing ceremony of Channel 8 romantic drama My One In A Million, and judging by their intense gaze at the celebratory cake in front of them, it looks like they can’t wait to have a slice each for good luck!

What they ate: Cakes they made on their own

Yummy factor: Both Meixin and Jasmine have been taking baking lessons for their roles in My One In A Million and judging from these photos, their piping skills look pretty legit. Who else was tempted to try a slice?

What he ate: Mickey pizza

Yummy factor: "It's cheesy, it's basic but I don't care. Soft spot for alll this cute food!" said Jade. No judgement, Jade. We're guilty of dishing out almost $10 for that Mickey pizza too.

Nathan Hartono

What he ate: Fancy donut

Yummy factor: Judging by the smirk on Nathan’s face, the huge, fluffy donut coated with chocolate and rainbow sprinkles is probably as delicious as it looks. And is it just us, or do the colours on the sweet treat match Nathan’s tee?

JJ Lin

JJ Lin

What he ate: Tang yuan

Yummy factor: JJ Lin celebrated the Spring Lantern Festival with a simple yet wholesome bowl of tang yuan. It must have been a bittersweet dessert for him, however, considering how his Sanctuary World Tour only concluded a day before.

What they ate: CNY feast

Yummy factor: Huat ah! TV darlings (long time no see He Yong Fang!) across generations gathered for their annual lou hei and CNY meal, where they feasted on delicacies like roast duck and pork (look at that rich sauce!), as well as an appetising teochew-style cold dish.

Phyllis Quek

Phyllis Quek

What she ate: Girly brunch

Yummy factor: Phyllis found a gem of a cafe in Sydney, Australia, where tea is served in quaint little pots and tea cups, and brunch fare looks as exquisite as it gets. Couple all of that with kitschy upholstery and voila -- it’s a perfect girls’ day out.

Yvonne Lim

What she ate: Yusheng

Yummy factor: Yvonne organised an impromptu lunch with yusheng with the #WhileYouWereAway8 film crew because she was craving for it. There’s no such thing as too much luck, so go on and lou hei as enthusiastically as you can, Yvonne!

Elvin Ng

What he ate: Chicken thigh rolls

Yummy factor: Caught in the act? Elvin couldn’t resist the temptation of chowing down a freshly-grilled chicken roll whilst browsing the bustling night markets of Taiwan. Well, we don’t think we can either -- just look at the succulent rolls glistening under the fluorescent lights.

Pornsak

Pornsak

What he ate: Hainanese kueh

Yummy factor: Good kueh is hard to find, let alone delicious homemade ones. Pornsak had the privilege to taste authentic Hainanese kueh, also known as yi bua, which has a rich coconut filling. The yellow skin you see is achieved naturally with pumpkin. With food like that, it’s no wonder Pornsak is turning into a #FattyPornPorn.

Sheila Sim

Sheila Sim

What she ate: Japanese seafood

Yummy factor: Sheila is enjoying herself on her ski trip to Niseko with her husband Deon Woo, alongside their loved ones. And seeing how Hokkaido is famous for its fresh seafood, there’s no way Sheila was going to miss out on some appetite-whetting sashimi and sushi, amongst other things!

Bonnie Loo

Bonnie Loo

What she ate: Coconut water and peanut pancake

Yummy factor: As delicious as min jiang kueh can be, the hawker snack can be a little too heaty. Bonnie did the right thing to cool down with a refreshing cup of fresh coconut water.

Sharon Au

Sharon Au

What she drank: Bubble tea

Yummy factor: Why settle for English tea when you can have an authentic cup of bubble tea in London? Sharon wasted no time in ordering a Aiyu Jelly Lemon Green Tea with a generous amount of pearls and a sugar level of 30%. And good call to do without the ice -- London’s weather is pretty chilly.

What she ate: Mi bakso

Yummy factor: While a piping hot bowl of mi bakso (meatball noodle soup) isn’t the best thing to have on a sweltering day in Bali, at least Jade is dressed for the occasion in her cute H&M bikini top and denim shorts. Plus, humble roadside stalls are where hidden gems await.

What they ate: Yusheng and more

Yummy factor: The ladies certainly went all out for the New Year. Aside from the customary yusheng, they shared unique dishes like roasted suckling pig stuffed with glutinous rice (a no-no for those on the keto diet), salt-baked crab, cockles, and more. Where do we sign up?
