What the stars ate this week

Valentine’s Day may have come and gone, but love was still in the air for celebs this week -- Candyce Toh and hubs Hong Junyang went out on a long-awaited date, Hayley Woo met the Kheng siblings from the Sam Willows to catch up, and Jeffrey Xu gushed over his “loving lunch” with Felicia Chin (sorry you had to be a lightbulb, Lawrence Wong). Plus, what an adventurous week it has been for Paige Chua -- scroll on to check out the “dangerous” snack she had in Siem Reap.

What she ate: Michelin-worthy street food

Yummy factor: From wonton noodles to yakitori and fancy ice-cream, Ah Jie definitely ate up a storm at the third edition of the Michelin Guide Street Food Festival.

What she ate: A spider and scorpion

Yummy factor: No kidding. Not only was the brave actress game enough to try out fried arachnids sold by a street vendor in Siem Reap, Cambodia, she said the "flavouring is not bad". Erm, thanks, but no thanks.

Zong Zijie and Tay Ying

What they ate: Ice cream

Yummy factor: What better way to cool down in Siem Reap than to have a refreshing ice-cold dessert at a night market? In any case, we’re pretty sure Zijie and Tay Ying, who are also in Cambodia, enjoyed it more than the fried scorpions and spiders they had earlier.

What they ate: Pastries

Yummy factor: Candyce joked in her caption that she finally had time to go on a date with her “ex-boyfriend”, aka current husband Hong Junyang. Humour aside, we hope they got back to finishing up the fluffy pastries after the wefie -- they look too delish to be wasted.

What they ate: Teochew porridge

Yummy factor: Hayley, Naomi and the Kheng siblings caught up over a hearty supper and boy were there lots to go around -- seven dishes for four people, to be exact. And we’re not even counting the porridge yet.

What she ate: High tea at Le Meurice

Yummy factor: Tanya indulged in high tea at the swanky Le Meurice in Paris, and she highly recommends the 5-star hotel’s chocolate tart, which comes perfectly swirled and topped with rich chocolate.

What they ate: Colourful bento

Yummy factor: If only our own takeaways lunches could look as appetising as Jeffrey’s -- think grilled salmon, fresh greens and a wobbly onsen egg. Psst.. Jeffrey commented that his colourful meal was a “loving lunch” -- could Felicia have picked out the ingredients for him?

What they ate: Kueh kueh

Yummy factor: Benefits of shooting with a pregnant woman (that would be Nurul) - you get food all the time! We can only imagine how heavenly the squirts of gula melaka from those golf ball-sized ondeh ondeh must taste.

Jean Danker

What she ate: Pain au chocolat

Yummy factor: Check out the chocolate pastry Jean had in the Class 95 studio -- it’s almost as big as her face. Although the likelihood of the flaky snack messing up her desk is pretty high, at least it would be a glorious mess worth risking for.

Jesseca Liu

What she ate: Belated birthday cake

Yummy factor: Why celebrate for a day when you can do so for an entire month? Jesseca's birthday (Feb 13) might have passed, but it hasn't stopped her from blowing out candles one more time before February comes to a close. Besides, it's hard to resist a good cake.

What she ate: Roasted prime rib at Lawry’s

Yummy factor: It may have been Michelle’s first time at Lawry’s, but it certainly won’t be her last. She had the works -- evenly-done prime rib beef, mashed potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding that probably soaked up all that flavourful beef jus.

What she ate: Hawaiian seafood

Yummy factor: YES 933 DJ Chen Ning is definitely living it up in Honolulu, where she gets to dress up in vibrant florals and savour the freshest catch. Are those juicy chunks of succulent lobster and ahi tuna we spy on her plate?

What he ate: Japanese udon

Yummy factor: You don’t say. According to Joel, this simple bowl of noodles packed an intense savoury flavour -- so much so that he captioned his photo as “umami tsunami”.

What he drank: Butter beer in Universal Studios Japan

Yummy factor: Who cares if you’ve got a foam moustache when you’ve got an entire pint of butter beer to yourself? We could do with an ice-cold one in this sweltering heat, that’s for sure.

Oon Shu An

What she ate: Dim sum

Yummy factor: More is more when it comes to ordering dim sum and fried foods for Shu An -- just check out the sumptuous spread in front of her. And while she may have satisfied her own cravings, we could really do with some siew mai and har gao right now.

Tong Bingyu

What she ate: High tea at TWG

Yummy factor: Bingyu spent a leisurely afternoon nibbling on a three-tier high tea set -- sounds like a real treat alright. Amidst the varied offerings, we think the macarons on the topmost layer look especially tempting.

What she ate: Pumpkin muffins

Jamie Yeo What do you do when you have too much pumpkin at home? Make a delicious soup and bake some yummy muffins for the little munchkins, of course. And from the looks of it, baby Luke can’t wait to get his chubby hands on these golden-brown goodies.

Pornsak

What he ate: Grilled pork

Yummy factor: If you’ve ever felt your tummy rumble after watching Pornsak’s gastronomic adventures on Instagram, you’re not alone. This week, Pornsak had us craving for some perfectly-cooked, juicy grilled pork (and tons of other Thai food). ‘Nuff said.

What they ate: Donuts

Yummy factor: Who cares if it’s close to lunchtime when there are crisp, sugary donuts to be had? Both Rozz and Shan were more than happy to chow on theirs at Queen Victoria Market -- all that’s missing is a Melbourne-style iced coffee to wash it all down.

Kimberly Wang

What she drank: Hokkaido strawberry milk

Yummy factor: Kimberly mused in this particular post that her favourite store in Japan is definitely the convenience store -- Lawson’s, to be exact. Aside from the smooth and creamy Hokkaido strawberry milk (and chicken cutlet) she had, we’re pretty sure she managed to get her hands on more awesome Japanese beverages.

What she ate: Vietnamese pho

Yummy factor: Sometimes all you need is a piping hot bowl of Vietnamese pho and a good friend for a fun and un-pho-gettable time. Don’t you agree, Yasminne?

Joanna Theng

Joanna Theng

What she ate: Korean food

Yummy factor: There’s always a valid reason to celebrate over food -- Joanna and her gal pal enjoyed Korean cuisine and a generous serving of kimchi as a post-exam treat. That bubbling stew looks like it’ll go really well with the short-grain brown rice.
