What the stars ate this week

We're well into January 2019 and the whole "New Year, New You" hoopla may still be going strong, but one thing has remained unchanged: The stars are still living it up with good food, good vibes. Case in point: Joakim Gomez nearly ate his weight in dim sum in Hong Kong and Romeo Tan indulged in dan bing in Taiwan. Meanwhile, Hayley Woo's eyes popped out of her head at the sight of Japanese steak. And fellow meatlover Kym Ng devoured a whole plate of meat during a meal with Zoe Tay, while Michelle Chia raised her glass. Cheers to more feasting and merrymaking -- which the stars certainly do best.

What they ate: A meal in between filming

Yummy factor: Something about this scene -- down to the old school dishware -- reminds us of comfortable family dinners where every person eats a second helping. And where you will invariably find someone with a piece of chicken dangling from their mouth, as demonstrated by Kym.

What he ate: Dan bing in Taiwan

Yummy factor: Thumbs up for the exceptionally fluffy dan bing, stuffed with what looks like pork floss. Drizzle some sweet soya and chili sauce over it for maxium deliciousness.

What he ate: Dim Sum at One Dim Sum in Hong Kong

Yummy factor: This is not what we expect a dimsum eating experience to look like at all. But Joakim explained, "A very important lesson has been learnt today. Just because it’s Dim Sum and they serve it in small portions...don’t over order." Point taken.

What she drank: Watermelon, pineapple and passion fruit juice at the Walk With Me press conference

Yummy factor: Healthy, refreshing, and in a nifty mini size with the Walk With Me logo on it. 10/10 would hoard this bottle.

Daren Tan

What he ate: Mushroom soup and truffles

Yummy factor: Daren hashtagged this "Confessions of a Confinement Dad." That's right, it's confinement month in the Tan household, and this new dad has been filling up on herbal soup every day. (Who gave birth here again? Just kidding). Still, he admitted that this western soup was a welcome change.

What she ate: Japanese steak, sashimi and sushi

Yummy factor: "Weekend vibes!" Hayley captioned, her eyes comically laser focused on the steak. Later she commented, "Finish eating must diet more." Way to kill the vibes.

What they ate: Yu sheng

Yummy factor: It looks a little meh, to be honest. But what this yu sheng lacked in colour (where are the bright veggies?), it made up with its abundance of "gold" (fried crackers), which to us is the most important ingredient of the dish. Huat ah!

What they ate: Carrot cake, cheong fun and kway chap at Pek Kio Hawker Centre

Yummy factor: Be still our hearts -- is that a big block of jiggly braised pork belly set before Xiu Huan? And behold the fluffy egg bits in the carrot cake. This is definitely a mother-daughter date done right.

What she ate: Marinated Teochew-style cockles at Famous Treasure with Jade Seah

Yummy factor: Eating this plate of fiery cockles would be both pleasurable and...painful. But as much as Jade claimed that Michelle "made" her do it, it still looks like the gals had a good time.

What she ate: Butter, presumably with something else

Yummy factor: "Sometimes, I just can't decide," Jeanette captioned this celebrities-they're-just-like-us-moment. Who else gets paralysed by indecision at the supermarket? Looks like Jeanette ended up getting both President and Elle and Vire butter. Now we can't help wondering: Salted or unsalted?

What he ate: A salad at Bread Street Kitchen on his date with Felicia Chin

Yummy factor: "Girlfriend's perspective," Jeffrey captioned. While Felicia was probably focused on Jeffrey in this frame, we've got all eyes on the huge chunks of succulent chicken.

What she ate: Ice cream in Ocean Park Hong Kong

Yummy factor: This ice cream compliments Kewei's rainbow fur coat and mani perfectly. She looks as happy as a kid with... well, ice cream.

What he ate: Meat skewers with his girl

Yummy factor: We love meat skewers and the sound of the glistening meat sizzling on the grill was music to our ears. But where are the spices and chilli flakes?

What she ate: A breadstick at the Emirates inflight lounge

Yummy factor: Julie, Julie. You don't go to the Emirates inflight lounge to munch on a single breadstick. Live it up a bit more!

What she ate: Steamboat with Pornsak. Tha's Grade A5 wagyu beef, by the way.

Yummy factor: When Pornsak asked Michelle why she turned to the side, she said it was because that side of her face looked better -- and she hilariously continued angling her face this way as she dunked the meat into the broth. Got to love a woman who keeps it real.

What she ate: Chilli crab choux from Little House of Dreams and egg waffles in Hong Kong

Yummy factor: Check out the googly eyes and claw on that chilli crab choux -- an incontestably cute creation (and very Singaporean!). The egg waffles are a lot more simple, but this street style classic doesn't need any dressing up.

Ferlyn Wong

What she ate: A croissant sandwhich from her fans after a press event for When Ghost Meets Zombie

Yummy factor: Real fans feed you and care for your tummy. We're sure Ferlyn enjoyed every bite of this sandwich then. (Side note: This could be a study in unfiltered vs filtered photos. But aw Ferlyn you look nice in both of 'em, heh.)

What she ate: Soup and bread at Paul

Yummy factor: Thick soups and warm chunks of bread make a slamdunk pairing. So comforting, they're basically the equivalent of a hug in food form.

What she ate: Cake

Yummy factor: The cake itself may look ordinary but Kate Pang and Andie Chen's little girl devoured it in a display of delight. Props for her impressive expressions and oomph.

What he ate: Coffee and mille crepe cake

Yummy factor: A forkful of delicate, sweet mille crepe would pair perfectly with a sip of bold and bitter coffee.

Kimberly Chia

What she ate: Salad, grilled prawn skewers, macaroni and tortilla chips with dip

Yummy factor: This looks tasty all right, but the limp greens in that salad could use a little crunch. And while tortilla chips are a crowd pleaser, the gamechanger is the dip. Any guesses as to what's in this one?
