What the stars ate this week

The stars aligned for Yvonne Lim and Romeo Tan this week, who coincidentally bumped into each other in Taiwan. Meanwhile, Fann Wong and Christopher Lee caught up with friends over comfort food, Julie Tan finally satisfied her craving for Asian food in the air, Hazelle Teo plucked up the courage to try a fried insect in Shenzhen, and Jeanette Aw got busy in the kitchen, baking up a storm for Chinese New Year. Guess how many financiers she made?

Fann Wong and Christopher Lee

What they ate: Fries, amongst other things

Yummy factor: The star couple caught up with friends over a casual meal (we spot thick-cut fries!) and we couldn’t help but notice Fann’s glowing complexion. Perhaps you should start using some of her skincare must-haves, Chris..

Desmond Tan

What he ate: Omurice

Yummy factor: It’s “pics or it didn’t happen” for Desmond, who has been eagerly sharing photos -- including this tantalising hotplate of omurice drenched in Japanese curry -- of his gastronomy adventures in Tokyo, Japan. Here’s hoping the extra calories won’t do much damage to his abs!

What she ate: Deep-fried insects

Yummy factor: While it doesn’t exactly come across as appetising, these deep-fried mole crickets from Shenzhen were apparently really crunchy and flavourful. And according to Hazelle, who eventually enjoyed it, it’s a great protein-rich snack.

What she ate: Dessert

Yummy factor: When the menu features mini desserts such as macarons, chocolates and tarts that have been beautifully plated, it definitely calls for a selfie. Here’s Ah Jie with hers at #kenmarryrach, Rachel Wee (Jean Yip’s daughter) and Ken Chen’s wedding celebration last weekend.

What they drank: Teh C and Kopi-o kosong ice

Yummy factor: What are the odds of them bumping into each other in Taiwan, and in a Singaporean cafe chain, Toast Box? Well clearly the stars aligned for Yvonne and Romeo; and ever the gentleman, Romeo took the opportunity to treat Yvonne to a cuppa.

Jeanette Aw

What she ate: Financiers

Yummy factor: CNY feels are strong here -- Jeanette the avid baker singlehandedly whipped up 500 of these French pastries (don’t they look like gold ingots?), presumably for her loved ones. Plus, she even added a pineapple paste filling for an Asian twist. We want!

Pornsak

What he ate: Thai feast including tom sapp (spicy pork ribs soup), omelette and stir fried clams for supper

Yummy factor: Why settle for Thai signatures in Singapore when you can have it in Johor Bahru? Pornsak crossed the causeway with his buddy to try out our neighbour’s take on his hometown favourites, which he gave two thumbs up.

Hong Ling

What she ate: Pasta, wings and beer with boyfriend Nick Teo

Yummy factor: We appreciate a girl who loves her food, and we’re pretty sure Nick agrees too. Hong Ling has been upping her fitness game of late with regular workout sessions, so she definitely deserves her carbs and a cool swig of beer during dinner dates.

What he ate: Hu jiao bing

Yummy factor: A decade later, Romeo finally got reunited with the peppery Taiwanese bun at the famed Shilin Night Market. Does it still taste the same, Romeo? Talk about a real #10yearchallenge.

What she ate: Lamb rendang

Yummy factor: After 10 days in Europe, Julie finally managed to satisfy her cravings for Asian food on board her Emirates flight. What better way to do that than indulge in something spicy and flavourful like lamb rendang and a hearty serving of rice?

Sharon Au

What she ate: Salted Egg Crab Seaweed Tempura

Yummy factor: While a freshly-baked croissant or pain au chocolat can be hard to resist, nothing beats the taste of home. So luckily for Sharon, who is currently based in Paris, the good folks over at The Golden Duck Co. sent her a care package filled with snacks inspired by local flavours.

What he ate: Ramen

Yummy factor: The self-proclaimed ramen connoisseur had his fix of the Japanese staple at Star Vista, and it was steaming hot to boot -- just look at his fogged-up glasses.. Was it a table for one, Joakim?

Sora Ma

What she ate: Birthday cake

Yummy factor: Happy belated birthday, Sora! The actress celebrated her crack day (Jan 22) over Italian comfort food at Gustoso Ristorante Italiano with fans, friends and loved ones. Of course, no birthday celebration is complete without a cake -- hers came in a unique pastel pink and gold piggy design, inspired by the year she was born in.

Zong Zijie and Tay Ying

What they ate: A sumptuous brunch

Yummy factor: Tay Ying doubts that both of them can finish the all-day breakfast spread in front of them. But with Zijie working this hard at the gym (have you seen his Instagram stories?), the real question is if it’s going to be enough for his refuelling needs.

What they ate: Pomegranate birthday cake

Yummy factor: When you’re celebrating an aesthetic doctor’s birthday, a cake rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C is a must-have of course. Xiang Yun, Edmund and both Michelles were guests at Dr. Jonathan Yong’s birthday party, and if there’s one thing they all have in common, it’s crystal clear skin.

What she ate: Chwee kueh

Yummy factor: Ya Hui shared her fave stall for chwee kueh, which can be found at Ghim Moh Market. She has been patronising this particular stall since she was a kid, and the elderly uncle who sells them has been doing so for more than six decades, so you can be sure they’re delish.
