What the stars ate this week

Stefanie Sun rang in her 40th birthday this week with no less than four cakes, while Shaun Chen threw an extravagant first birthday party for his daughter Neia. As Jeremy Chan, Jesseca Liu, Nathan Hartono and Ferlyn Wong met up over coffee, the cast of You Can Be An Angel 3 had a little snack break of their own with free eclairs. But nothing made us drool like the mountain of fatty meat that Thomas Ong gloated over during his trip to JB.

What they ate: Eclairs from L’éclair patisserie from Sister Pauline while filming You Can Be An Angel 3

Yummy factor: Who else is experiencing "work perk envy"? We're making heart-eyes at these eclairs that almost look too pretty to eat.

What she ate: Lobster, lobster rolls, fries, and macaroni and cheese at Burger and Lobster in Bangkok

Yummy factor: That gigantic lobster is loaded with a blanket of melty cheese – and it’s only one thing out of a whole table of mouthwatering grub.

Jesseca Liu

What she ate: Cheese rings

Yummy factor: She may be 39, but she eats cheese rings like a 5-year-old. How endearing is that? We have a sneaking suspicion that she licks the orange cheese powder off her fingertips afterward too.

Stefanie Sun

What she ate: Birthday cakes to celebrate turning "20+20"

Yummy factor: Mind you, these are just two of the four cakes she enjoyed. Stefanie wrote that even with an aching back and feet due to her big bump, she couldn't be happier celebrating her birthday. Her only desires? To eat cake, put her feet up, chat with family and friends, and read her fans' messages. Happy birthday, Stefanie!

Kate Pang

What she ate: Hotpot at Spice World Hotpot, with a meat-covered Barbie and Hello Kitty shaped out of mala hot soup

Yummy factor: Avery looks downright traumatised by the gory demise of these toys characters in this PG-rated hotpot. No wonder she stuck with her deep fried mantou -- an inoffensive, safe choice.

What she ate: Noodles for breakfast

Yummy factor: Dawn wrote, “I like to sit next to my director and have breakfast (I think she secretly hates me).” Eh, Dawn doesn’t look sorry at all about her blatant indulgence.

Shaun Chen

What he ate: His daughter's first birthday cake

Yummy factor: This cake bears a slight resemblance to a tutu thanks to the rows of frosting on the bottom. In any case, if little Neia's having this as her very first birthday cake, imagine how extraordinary her future birthday cakes will have to be.

What he ate: Coffee, drinks and a bite with Jesseca Liu, Nathan Hartono and Ferlyn Wong

Yummy factor: Now this is a table we’d love to crash, given the A+ company, but only if they ordered more sweet potato fries.

What he ate: Three-layer fatty meat in Johor Bahru

Yummy factor: We just gulped at the sight of these glistening, tender chunks of meat. It's almost unfair how closely he's holding them to the lens. What a tease.

Jade Seah

Jade Seah

What she ate: Scrambled egg croissant (pictured), cod soba, wagyu don and cold chocolate from Populus Coffee and Food Co.

Yummy factor: Despite not being a fan of cafes or hip eating places, Jade ventured to this place for a lunch that wasn’t “half bad.” Loaded with mushrooms and bacon, this brunch dish looks toothsome, all right. Tip: The cold chocolate, “one of the best” she’s ever had in Singapore, is a must-try.

What she ate: Fluffy pandan pancake and latte at Tolido’s Espresso Nook

Yummy factor: Tolido’s is known for their pandan pancakes topped with coconut ice cream and gula melaka, their pretty latte art, and their cute barista. Wink, wink.

What she ate: Durian

Yummy factor: Is there a more accurate depiction of pure delight? “To not eat it is to do a disfavour to yourself,” Bonnie hashtagged. Well if she puts it like that…

What she drank: Iced kopi, which she "can't live without"

Yummy factor: Oh Michelle, you and us both. The whole of Singapore runs on kopi.

What she ate: Laksa from Casa Verde at Singapore Botanic Gardens

Yummy factor: Oh boy, check out the large prawns. This flaming rich dish is what Cynthia misses the most during long trips away from home. We can relate, especially as it can be tough finding authentic versions of this local favourite overseas.

What he ate: Street side tacos and beef jerky on a road trip passing San Diego

Yummy factor: What’s a road trip through the USA without some western beef jerky? These had ghost peppers in them, and seeing as you’re supposed to handle ghost peppers with “protective gear” to prevent chili burn, you can guess how tongue-searing the jerky was.

What he ate: Pizza, although it wasn't long till he got distracted by Maxi’s lips

Yummy factor: Guess the pizza wasn’t as tempting as Maxi Lim – the one who got away.

Andie Chen

Andie Chen

What he ate: Actually, Andie was on a 72-hour water fast while his lunch date, Jade Seah, feasted away on a chirashi don.

Yummy factor: Andie deserves all the props for eeking out a stiff smile in the face of such temptation. The oozy egg atop a hill of salty roe certainly didn’t help.

Tosh Zhang

Tosh Zhang

What he ate: Ah, more fasting. After his 16-hour intermittent fast, Tosh scarfed down scrambled eggs, steak, hot dogs and cherry tomatoes.

Yummy factor: Looks like someone made up for lost time (and calories). We wonder how his empty stomach reacted to the shock of so much heavy protein. Then again, we doubt he was craving a SALAD after 16 hours without food.

What he ate: Sichuan mala hot pot

Yummy factor: Yikes, the peppers and chilli oil are a force to be reckoned with. “Eating hot pot is a serious matter in Sichuan,” Junyang captioned. No kidding: cue the towel around his neck.

What he ate: Japanese meatball skewers and sake shabu shabu at Yakitori Lounge Hibiki

Yummy factor: Sake shabu shabu is exactly what it sounds like -- steamboat with sake-infused soup. Well if you like sake, and you like steamboat, this might be up your alley.

What he ate: His surprise birthday cake from Bonnie Loo and the rest of his You Can Be An Angel 3 family

Yummy factor: What a sweet surprise. Whether it was a chocolate or tiramisu cake, every layer looks delicious.

Vanessa Vanderstraaten

What she ate: A chocolate cake for her 30th birthday

Yummy factor: The cake is sweet in its simplicity, bolstered by the unicorn balloon and Vanessa's unblinking comfort in ringing in her 30s with her towel turban in place.

What she ate: Sashimi at Shangri-la Hotel Singapore

Yummy factor: We don't need to eat this to know it was divine (looking at you, uni), and as suckers for gorgeous presentation, this totally hits the spot.
