What the stars ate this week

This week, Denise Camillia Tan got her fill of meat in Budapest, Hong Ling and Nick Teo got busy in the kitchen, Michelle Chong gave in to Sharon Au and had a healthy “reunion” steamboat together back in Singapore, and Zhong Kunhua literally had a “cool” version of nasi lemak. But perhaps the happiest of all was Jeanette Aw, who received a surprise delivery of fresh pastries just when she needed a perk-me-up.

Denise Camillia Tan

What she ate: Meat platter

Yummy factor: We know Denise has been working on her fitness, but we didn't expect her to load up on protein with such huge portions of meat. Nonetheless, it must have been hard not to order the platter - the meat chunks look like they would go really well with sliced baguette, tart pickles and onion rings.

What he ate: Beef noodles

Yummy factor: Darryl had a shiok bowl of beef noodles from Moo Teow at Wild Bar, and we love how it's chock full of ingredients with lots of chilli on the side. And something about the size of the meatballs tells us that they must be pretty delish.

What they ate: Fried chicken cutlet

Yummy factor: Shane and Kimberly have been feasting non-stop since they landed in Hokkaido, Japan, eating everything from ramen to king crab tempura to gyukatsu (beef cutlet). But perhaps the snack the couple were most looking forward to was Kim’s favourite spicy fried chicken cutlet from convenience store Lawson. Looks like Lawson just gained a new fan!

Zhong Kunhua

What he ate: Nasi lemak ice-cream

Yummy factor: With National Day just around the corner, just about everything is inspired by nasi lemak, including this seasonal treat the Yes933 DJ had from Coldstone Creamery, which he said tasted really yummy and legit. It even came topped with actual ikan bilis, peanuts, sambal sauce, rice, and slices of cucumber.

Sharon Au

What she ate: Kueh dadar cake

Yummy factor: Why celebrate just once when you can do so the whole of your birthday month? Sharon had an advanced birthday celebration planned for her by friends, and the star of the evening was the homemade kueh dadar cake. Layered to perfection, it's proof that old school bakes are just as charming.

Nick Teo and Hong Ling

What they ate: Thai food like papaya salad, tom yum soup and stir-fried pork with rice

Yummy factor: The couple whipped up some of Hong Ling's favourite Thai dishes for a magazine shoot yesterday (Aug 1) and we’re now thinking of getting our own plate of zesty and extra spicy papaya salad and tom yum goong for lunch.

Jeanette Aw

What she ate: Pastries

Yummy factor: Jeanette received a sweet surprise in the middle of a frustrating work day and she couldn't be more thankful. We would cheer up too if we were gifted with boxes of fresh croissants, lemon tarts, Danish pastries, and cakes from Tiong Bahru Bakery. Nonetheless, jia you Jeanette!

Joanne Peh

What she ate: Ice ball

Yummy factor: When you've been filming under the hot sun with perfectly coiffed hair and a form-fitting cheongsam, a cold dessert is always welcomed. Joanne managed to enjoy a quick treat in the midst of filming, and flavoured ice balls sure sound like a god-send for parched throats.

What she ate: Chocolate bingsu

Yummy factor: It’s hard to say no to more chocolate when it comes in the form of chocolate-flavoured bingsu with a huge scoop of ice cream, biscuit sticks and a generous sprinkling of cocoa powder like Bonnie’s.

What she ate: Pickled chillies

Yummy factor: As if we aren't envious of their #couplegoals life already, Jamie’s husbo Rupert has upped it yet a notch! Imagine coming home to a jar of your favourite pickles - homemade to perfection by your better half. Now that's the life...

The Muttons

What they ate: Mala ramen at Menya Kokoro

Yummy factor: Justin Ang tried a mala-flavoured ramen - both its dry and soup versions - and he just had to go for Level 3 (the spiciest). The dry version, the Mala Maze Soba, looks especially tempting with that onsen egg oozing its goodness all over the tender char siu, green onions, seaweed toppings and noodles!

Simone Heng

What she ate: Green ants

Yummy factor: Simone dined at the award-winning Yarri Restaurant + Bar located at Margaret River in Perth, and the menu seems most interesting - think emu tartare, kangaroo pie and... green ants. Unique to Australia, the green ants came fried in a light batter as part of a tasting set. Yummy or gross? You decide.

What they ate: Steamboat

Yummy factor: What do you do when your BFF eats beef and you prefer tofu? Have a steamboat meal together like Sharon and Michelle, where you can order whatever you’re partial to, of course. As healthy as it looks, Sharon probably had to go for something lighter after a week of feasting on local delights back home in Singapore. Check out the jugs of prawn broth though...

What she ate: Seafood

Yummy factor: Michelle is definitely a petite girl with a huge appetite - check out the ginormous plate of prawns she had at Luen Fong restaurant in Perak, Malaysia. She also had her fill of noodles, freshly steamed catfish and even more prawns.

What she ate: Lavender ice cream

Yummy factor: According to Sora, the lavender ice cream from Cape Lavender Teahouse in Perth is absolutely delicious. Of course, it's muted purple hue makes it Insta-worthy too.

What she ate: Lunch with a view

Yummy factor: Apple dined at the charming Hotel La Bitta in Arbatax, Italy, and the spread looks just as amazing as the picturesque view behind her - check out the freshly-shucked oysters, as well as the generous bowls of salad and breads.

What he ate: Fruits like dragonfruit, oranges and cubed pears

Yummy factor: Terence was gifted with a box of cut fruits and we were quite tickled by how he went at it like a hungry robot. That's his daily intake of fruits covered, for sure.

Pornsak

What he ate: Mussels

Yummy factor: Pornsak had some of the juiciest-looking mussels cooked in chilli at Melbourne's  Little Mussel Cafe, and he couldn't stop gushing about how fresh they were. And lucky Pornsak chanced upon a particular mussel that had both a female and male encased within.

What she ate: Brown sugar boba

Yummy factor: Sonia was gifted with a cup of brown sugar boba from OG Tiger Sugar during an outdoor activation, and she couldn’t be more grateful for the cool drink, considering the heat we’ve been experiencing lately.
