What the stars ate this week

This week was filled with celebrity get-togethers over scrumptious eats. Rebecca Lim, Ian Fang, Chen Xiu Huan and her daughter Shaylynn Tsai chatted and dined elbow-to-elbow, while lucky traveller Tay Ping Hui indulged in yummy dim sum with Hong Kong actress Jessica Hsuan. Meanwhile, look who's back from Paris? Sharon Au met up with Fiona Xie during her visit and of course, she went straight for the local cuisine.

Ya Hui

What she ate: An open-faced sandwich for breakfast at IKEA Hotell & Restaurang Värdshuset in Sweden

Yummy factor: Just one look at these fresh and juicy sliced tomatoes indicates that they tasted sufficiently tomatoe-y with tons of umami – nothing like the bland variety we often get. It’s just some black pepper sprinkles away from utter deliciousness.

Dawn Yeoh

What she ate: Late night snacks including peanut butter wafers and tomato chips

Yummy factor: Dawn wrote, “I know I’m gonna regret tomorrow!” which sounds uncomfortably familiar to serial midnight snackers like us. Peanut butter wafers are so worth it though.

What she drank: Laksa, curry and prata at Style by Style Vibes Café

Yummy factor: The dishes might be heavy, but they’re bursting with flavours and mouth-watering aromas. Plus, who can resist dunking pieces of puffy, oven-baked prata into a bowl of creamy curry?

What she ate: Salad

Yummy factor: It's just a salad but that doesn't stop Carrie's furkid Gege from drooling over it. If we were her, we'd attack that luscious-looking milkshake on the right.

What he ate: Beef rendang that he cooked himself

Yummy factor: Zoe Tay commented, “Yes please!” in answer to Thomas' caption, “Beef rendang anyone?” Well if it’s good enough for Zoe…

What they drank: Wine and a meal together

Yummy factor: Even though we can’t spot any real food here, the chummy group atmosphere, empty wine glass and Chen Xiu Huan’s finger-heart indicate that this get-together was a hit.

What they ate: Dim sum in Hengdian, China

Yummy factor: "Trust a Hongkonger to introduce me to the best Hong Kong food in Hengdian," Tay Ping Hui captioned, raving about the yuan yang (Hong Kong-style sweet milk tea with brewed coffee).

What they ate: The family celebrated Aden’s birthday at Nikom Thai Kitchen with scrumptious Thai food and Pokemon-themed cakes.

Yummy factor: The themed birthday cake and cupcakes are impressive, but not as impressive as Aden’s chicken-nibbling skills. He cleaned that drumstick clean to the bone. Can ya say “finger lickin’ good”?

What he ate: Ice cream cone, two scoops

Yummy factor: Desirable ice cream portion: big enough to hide half of your face behind. Just look at Joshua’s smile. Calories are the last thing on his mind.

What she drank: Coconut ice cream out of a coconut husk

Yummy factor: Michelle struck the “parted lips” sexy move while consuming ice cream on the street. Wow, influencer-level pose right here. Think she sold it?

What they ate: Ice cream dessert during an alfresco dinner date

Yummy factor: There aren't any fireworks visible in the sky, but the fireworks are strong between these lovebirds. As any longtime couple will attest, alfresco dining keeps the sparks alive (although ice cream helps too).

Jean Danker

What she ate: A vanilla cream puff and sashimi at Jypsy at Martin38

Yummy factor: Jean had to split the cream puff with hubby Glenn Ong but if it were us, that baby would have been scarfed down in minutes before anyone else got their paws on ‘em.

What she ate: Edible cookie dough with milk and Belgian waffles in England

Yummy factor: She had us at “edible cookie dough,” and that shot glass of milk is pure genius.

What he ate: Breakfast in Los Angeles

Yummy factor: Well you know what they say about “American portions.” The heaps of bacon and fatty ham aren’t doing his arteries any favours but that beaming smile says, “I don’t care.”

Nick Teo

What he ate: After Nick tucked into his birthday cake with buddies including Dawn Yeoh, Chase Tan, Hong Ling and Edwin Goh, the group went for soccer night and drinks at Joo Bar.

Yummy factor: Looks like he rang in his 29th year the right way: with friends, the World Cup  and an overflowing glass.

What they ate: Thai BBQ steamboat at 888 Mookata

Yummy factor: Looks like a heartfelt chat and stomach-satisfying meal were enjoyed by “father and son,” as Xu Bin captioned (Chew Chor Meng played his father in 118). We hope they ate their weight in mookata.

What he ate: Thai green curry and salad at Little Elephant Thai Bistro

Yummy factor: Tongue-scalding Thai curry pairs best with a glass of Thai iced tea. Meanwhile, we’re sweating at the sight of the chili oil in the tom yum soup.

Sonia Chew

What she ate: Puffed baby corn at Cheek By Jowl

Yummy factor: We’re a little freaked out by Sonia’s crazy eyes but it probably means the food was crazy good. She may have munched it up (corn husks and all) in two bites.

Sharon Au

Sharon Au

What she ate: Straight off the plane from Paris, Sharon wasted no time hitting up her favourite local eats including bak chor mee, iced gems and chendol

Yummy factor: Say what you will about fancy French cuisine – nothing comes close to a bowl of slurp-worthy bak chor mee with springy noodles coated in chilli sauce and bits of pork lard.

What she ate: Truffle fries at P.S. Café in Paragon

Yummy factor: We thought only kids ate fries with their heads tilted back comically like this, but apparently not. To be fair, the truffle fries here are off the charts and deserve to be eaten with flare.
