What the stars ate this week

This week, Desmond Tan, Paige Chua and Kimberly Wang whipped up their own meals (well, sort of), Thomas Ong satisfied his craving for laksa (with pork lard, no less!), Yvonne Lim got creative with desserts, and Fann Wong and Christopher Lee enjoyed their wine pairing dinner so much that they forgot to Instagram it!

Thomas Ong

What he ate: Laksa from Ah Sai Pork Rib Prawn Noodle

Yummy factor: Specifically, a huge bowl of laksa with lots of ingredients - fresh prawns, tau kwa and a generous serving of fried pork lard and sambal. Just do without the bean sprouts for Thomas, please.

Paige Chua

What she ate: Pad Thai, green curry, and mango sticky rice

Yummy factor: Check out the feast Paige whipped up during her cooking class in Phuket! Though the green curry looks a little pale, we love the bright colours of this spread. Zooming in straight for the mango sticky rice.

The Muttons

What they ate: Jiggly pancakes at Gram Pancakes

Yummy factor: Served with premium butter and smooth whipped cream, the Japanese-style souffle pancakes are just calling out for the Muttons to tuck in. I mean, can anyone resist its wobbly goodness? Too bad it is only available three times a day (11am, 3pm, and 6pm), with 30 servings only per session. Run, don't walk.

Kimberly Wang

What she ate: Popiah

Yummy factor: Kimberly made her own popiah from scratch at Violet Oon’s, and contrary to what her friends think (“it's a burrito wrap”), we must say the roll, which is chock-full of ingredients, looks pretty legit.

What they ate: Wine pairing dinner

Yummy factor: From fish maw broth with sea urchin to abalone salad and stuffed sea cucumber, Fann and Chris sure had an indulgent meal at the newly renovated Crystal Jade Palace at Takashimaya Shopping Centre. It's no wonder Fann forgot to Instagram about it till the fourth course.

Nat Ho

What he ate: Lobster roll

Yummy factor: Forget about a ketogenic diet - Nat couldn’t resist sinking his teeth into one of Luke’s Lobsters famous creations. The buttered roll is bursting at the seams with juicy lobster chunks, and must have tasted heavenly with the bowl of hot soup.

Desmond Tan

What he ate: Homecooked meal

Yummy factor: A heavy downpour in Taiwan meant that a hungry Desmond had to whip up his own meal with whatever was in the fridge.. But no matter because the simple stir-fry dish of enoki mushrooms and chicken breast tossed with sliced capsicum and onions still looked colourful and delicious! We also like how he added cherry tomatoes for a touch of colour and crunch.

Yvonne Lim

What she ate: Adorable sweets

Yummy factor: Yvonne got creative in the kitchen again with her gal pals, and created lil’ adorable animal-themed sweets in the form of ice-cream cones (presumably for the kiddos!). We don’t know about you, but they sure look yummy!

What they ate: Sausages and beer

Yummy factor: The Chen trio, who began their tour of Austria in Vienna, wasted no time in getting themselves an ice-cold beer to accompany their juicy weiners. There’s just something about the yummy combination that’s making us drool!

Chen Xiuhuan

What she ate: Durians

Yummy factor: Xiuhuan loves her creamy Mao Shan Wang durian so much that a friend gifted her with a mini tree for her to grow her own. Even though it may only bear fruit seven years later, good things are worth the wait.

Florence Tan

What she ate: Nasi lemak

Yummy factor: Check out the crispy fried chicken wing on her plate! Florence had nasi lemak from Village Park Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur and she highly recommends it - we can only imagine how shiok the fried batter bits must taste with the fluffy rice and sambal chilli.

Phyllis Quek

What she ate: Korean food

Yummy factor: Phyllis was all smiles as she tucked into Korean kimchi, and we think it’s because she can’t wait to savour the bubbling hotpot in front of her! Could it be be samgye-tang (ginseng chicken soup)?

What they ate: Rib eye steak

Yummy factor: And not just any rib eye, mind you, but a whopping 1kg U.S. Black Angus bone-in rib eye, dry-aged in-house for up to 36 days with a marble score of 4. That was a mouthful, but we can only imagine how tender the steak was. Happy birthday in advance Glenn, your wifey sure knows how to make you happy!

Tong Bingyu

What she ate: Bak chor mee

Yummy factor: Bingyu enjoyed local fare while flying and was pleasantly surprised by how authentic the experience was - her bak chor mee came with plenty of fried pork lard! It’s not exactly what we’d expect in a business class menu, but we’ll take it any day.

Carole Lin

What she ate: Berry tart

Yummy factor: Carole had the most delicious-looking slice of tart - think a crumbly chocolate base topped with creme brulee, whipped cream, an assortment of berries and more. We’d join you for tea anytime, Carole!

Jade Seah

What she ate: Strawberry bingsu

Yummy factor: With the scorching heat in Bangkok, it’s little wonder Jade chose to cool down with a delish shaved ice dessert topped with strawberries. It sure looks like a sinful treat, notwithstanding the saucer of Shibuya honey she’s holding on to!

Yummy factor: While JJ Lin is exuding seriously chill vibes in his summery shirt and shades, we’d put down that cuppa and get started on the fluffy strawberry sponge cake if we were him!

What she ate: Mini bubble tea

Yummy factor: For days where you’re craving for boba but don’t want a whole cup of it, a mini version like Jasmine’s is the answer - how clever!
