New restaurants to check out in October

October’s line-up of newly opened restaurants and bars are sure to pique your interest. We have acclaimed restaurateur Marco Pierre White’s The English House and Esora, the Lo & Behold Group’s first Japanese restaurant. If you’re a creature of comfort, Mister Wu and Bar Cicheti take familiar and ever-satisfying noodles to whole new levels with their signature la mian and pastas.

The Sampan is now open with a three-storey restaurant and bar at Boat Quay – a perfect location that complements the restaurant’s namesake. Good for big groups and intimate parties alike, The Sampan offers unique renditions of familiar Asian flavours. Their take on Bahn Mi incorporates foie gras and sriracha mayo as its main ingredients, artfully blending French and Vietnamese cuisine together. Their menu also offers vegetarian and gluten-free dishes, like their dairy and gluten-free pork and chicken Choi Baos.

La Mian lovers rejoice, as Mister Wu presents an indulgent array of rich and affordable La Mian dishes. Each bowl ranges from $8 – $11, which is a pretty good steal considering its generous servings. A mound of fresh and spicy seafood tops the Hibiki Whisky Soup La Mian. Even more opulently, Chilled Truffle Caviar La Mian is served with plump oysters, caviar and fragrant truffle. These bold flavours easily complement the wide range of traditionally brewed Chinese teas on their menu.

Beef Sukiyaki Don Keisuke is a new addition to Ramen Keisuke’s stream of concepts around Singapore. This new outlet showcases a unique interpretation of two classical Japanese dishes – Beef Sukiyaki and Gyu Don. Its signature Kiwami Wagyu Sukiyaki Don ($29.90++) features grade A4 Yonezawa Beef, served with special Sukiyaki sauce and soft Koshihikari rice.

The Supermarket Company, creators of SPRMRKT Kitchen and Bar, have just opened a new casual dining restaurant. Telok Ayer Arts Club is a quirky multi-purpose space that melds together art, music food and drinks. Certainly a place to go for a creative dining experience. Their menu includes good for sharing meals, such as their Locally Bred Spatchcock with Bacon Matchsticks ($28) and Seafood Fettuccini, Manila Clams, and Shellfish Reduction ($25).

The English House

If you know Gordon Ramsay, you’d know his mentor, British celebrity chef and restauranteur Marco Pierre White. Located in a house on Mohamed Sultan, The English House is indeed home to all things English. Don’t let its shophouse exterior, inspired by colonial Singapore, fool you.

What lies inside is an extensive space, lushly adorned with rustic British furniture and ornaments. The succulent decor perfectly complements its selection of English comfort foods, such as Sausage Rolls and Potted Duck with Green Peppercorn.

The English House will open up its 18 plush bedrooms, located on the second floor and attic, with en suite bathrooms for booking early 2019.

IB HQ Singapore

Kamil Foltan, previously of Tippling Club and Potato Head, has opened IB HQ (short for The Indigenous Bartender Headquarters) in Singapore. Fans of Kamil’s work are in for a treat as he continues to push the boundaries. Making use of raw ingredients to create new and unusual flavours, one can enjoy a variety of inventive drinks like Li Chi Pu, a blend of Rhum Agricole, coconut, lychee, lemongrass, and orange bitters. Or Pi Pa, which uses Parsnip Vodka and pineapple caramel.
