Where to eat at Robertson Quay

The inner city neighbourhood of Robertson Quay is heavily frequented for good reason. There’s just something enticing about the riverside: the cool cafes, the chilled out vibes, and plus, our favourite sake shop is there. So without further ado, here are the best restaurants and cafes along the quayside that offer everything from steakhouses to Japanese restaurants to sake and whisky bars.

Japanese Restaurants in Robertson Quay: Mikoto

Taking over the space that was once Foodbar Dada at Robertson Court, Mikoto reminds us of the ‘Yakitori Alley’ in Ueno, Tokyo. A narrow bar setup and a simple row of about 10 seats for punters translate into an authentic izakaya experience (read as plenty of involuntary physical contact). Good news is Mikoto upholds the excellent food aspect, known for its $10 assorted sashimi, champon ramen noodles ($18), and yummy yuzu liqueurs.

Mikoto is located at 60 Robertson Qy, Singapore 238252, p. +65 6235 5277. Open Tue-Sun 5pm – 11.30pm.

Ginza Kuroson

Ginza Kuroson

Ginza Kuroson lies along the main riverside section at Robertson Quay. A surprisingly large Japanese restaurant with counter seating as well as traditional table seats, expect a predominately Japanese crowd here. Their bara chirashi don lunch set is a winner for us, which doubles as excellent value at $18.

Ginza Kuroson is located at 30 Robertson Qy, #01-10/11 Riverside View, Singapore 238251, p. +65 6737 5547. Open daily 11.30am – 3pm, 6pm – 11pm.

Ishi

Ishi

The brand new Ishi is traditional Japanese kaiseki at its finest. This spot is relatively small with just 28 seats, and for that, you get to immerse in a calm zen-like ambience as you feast on the freshest seasonal ingredients imported from Japan. It’s also worth noting that Ishi is the sister restaurant to modern Izakaya IZY Dining & Bar.

Ishi is located at 1 Nanson Rd, #02-06 InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay, Singapore 238909, p. +65 9829 8239. Open Tue-Sat 12pm – 2.30pm, 6.30pm – 10.30pm. Closed Mon.

Orihara

15 Feb 2018

Orihara

Famous sake shop by day and chilled out bar by night, sit at the bar or at the makeshift tables at the back and enjoy the vast selection of excellent sakes and bar grub, including some fabulous piping hot bowls of sweet oden – think Japanese-style yong tau foo – and yakitori skewers. They can get really crowded so reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.

Orihara is located at 11 Unity St, #01-02 Robertson Walk, Singapore 237995, p. +65 6836 5710. Open Mon-Wed 7pm – 12am, Thu-Sat 7pm – 1.30am. Closed Sun, every third Mon of the month.

Yakiniku Yazawa

A veritable heaven for meat lovers, Yakiniku Yazawa’s convivial atmosphere provides a fantastic backdrop to enjoy excellent wagyu flown in directly from Japan. While you won’t find much seafood or vegetable options here, the beef here is amazing, of course, as well as the Mangalica pork ($22) and tori momoniku ($16, juicy chicken thigh marinated in tare).

Yakiniku Yazawa is located at 11 Unity St, #01-01 Robertson Walk, Singapore 237995, p. +65 6235 2941. Open daily 6pm – 11.30pm.

Sushi Kaishin

Sushi Kaishin

Hidden just off the riverside is a plethora of unassuming smaller eateries – one of which is Sushi Kaishin and its very simple sushi omakase concept. Dinner ranges from $100 to 200; pricey but worth it in our opinion for a bona fide pure sushi restaurant that carries its own around bigger and flashier sushi spots in Singapore.

Sushi Kaishin is located at 30 Robertson Qy, #01-04 Riverside View, Singapore 238251, p. +65 6733 3720. Open daily 11.30am – 3pm, 6pm – 11pm.

Cafes in Robertson Quay, Singapore: Toby's Estate

One of the most popular coffee joints in town among the Australian community – they do know their coffee. Toby’s Estate imports their own beans and roast them in-house, giving the place a heady scent of coffee which definitely adds to the atmosphere. Their food items, like Scrambled Eggs and Brioche ($8.50) also hold their own. Good spot for brunch or a strong and refreshing iced latte ($6).
