Vivian Pei has called Singapore home for several years but her multi-continental lifestyle has undoubtedly inspired her cooking philosophy and style. The 46-year-old self-confessed food geek started cooking in the same manner as many – because she was sick of eating takeout while at university. While Vivian went on to apprentice at Michelin-starred restaurants, she calls her style of food “borderless” and “definitely not fine-dining”. She draws inspiration from the many places she has travelled to and lived in. These days, the writer and cook also spends time as a culinary instructor focusing on Modern Asian cuisine, and hopes to continue doing the same on a larger scale with Eat List Star.
