A frog found with a seemingly oversized penis could be growing a third leg, scientists have revealed.
Australian resident Keith Leech discovered the odd-looking amphibian and took a photograph of it's strange growth and posted them on Facebook with the caption 'What the frog'.
The pictures baffled online users and on Thursday (12.05.16) scientists stepped in to analyse the creature - and have revealed it's more likely to be the growth of a third leg.
Gerry Marantelli from the Australian Amphibian Research Centre told Buzzfeed News: "It's not a penis, frogs don't have then, but penises did evolve from 'legs' during embryonic development so an extra leg is part way there,"
Male frogs have a pair of testes with accessory organs including the cloaca - a cavity at the end of the digestive tract - as their reproductive organs.
Sperm is ejected from the cloaca directly onto the eggs as the female lays them.
Without full examination of the frog, it cannot be confirmed whether the body part is a third leg or indeed a very large penis.
