A man was arrested after he was caught trying smuggle 51 turtles strapped to his trousers across the US border.
Kai Xu, 27, has pleased guilty to six offences in a federal court in Ann Arbor, Michigan after he admitted he had ordered the reptiles online and was trying to travel to Michigan in order to get them back to his home in Canada.
Mr Xu had been under surveillance in the weeks leading up to his arrest in Detroit in 2014 after wildlife agents watched him collecting a box at a United Parcel Service facility.
It was claimed the gentleman disappeared behind some lorries after picking up the boxes, before emerging with "irregularly shaped bulges" under his tracksuit bottoms.
The court heard Mr Xu was stopped by Canadian border authorities en route to Ontario and was discovered with the turtles taped to his legs, as well as reptiles hidden in a box of corn flakes and boots, according to Sky News.
Mr Xu is faced with a maximum of 10 years in prision and could be forced to pay out between $30,000 and $125,000.
