A pensioner went for a swim through his kitchen after Storm Desmond flooded his home.
Peter Clarkson, 72, was determined to make light of a bad situation by stripping down to his trunks and paddling through his kitchen after torrential rain left his house on Parr Street, in Kendal, Cumbria, submerged in four feet of water.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he explained: "My wife and I, and all our friends here, have seen bad floods over the years - but nothing like this. Many have been left depressed, shattered and in tears by what has happened to their homes and lives over the last five days.
"My own kitchen is flooded out so I thought it would show some bulldog, Dunkirk spirit if I got my swimming trunks on and stuck two fingers up at Storm Desmond for good.
"It raised some laughter and smiles which was the reason as we all desperately need something to grin about."
However, Mr Clarkson couldn't wait to have a wash after his swimming session as the water was dirty and really murky.
He added: "The water was very, very cold and rather dirty. I dread to think what is in there."
